'Fit for Speed' is the slogan of the new
Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 tennis shoe ! This shoe combines speed with a 'glove-like' fit.
The Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 contains a truckload of technology to provide a shoe that is as light and fast as possible with a seamless fit. For example, the shoe contains:
- Primeknit woven upper with 'sock' for a seamless fit, comfort, ventilation and stability. This technology has been successfully used by Adidas in football boots for 2 seasons
- The highly abrasion-resistant Adituff material on the toe and medial forefoot for extra durability
- Adiprene cushioning in the heel and forefoot
- 3D Torsion for midfoot support
- Sprintframe 'chassis' for support in a lightweight jacket
- Very durable Adiwear outsole
How does the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 fit?
The Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 has a medium-wide fit. The shoe is therefore not made for very narrow feet. Despite the Primeknit sock, the shoe is comparable in size to other Adidas models. With Adidas I normally wear size 44 (UK 9.5, US 10). With this shoe I also end up with the same size. Getting into the shoe is a bit different than I am used to because of the Primeknit upper - and sock. But once the shoe is on, it feels very comfortable. The arch support is not very high, but I would not have expected anything else from a shoe that is made for speed. Another top shoe in this lightweight genre is the
ASICS Gel Solution Speed 3. This is slightly narrower and more compact on the forefoot compared to the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2. The midfoot support is comparable: both shoes enclose the midfoot/instep very comfortably.
How does this shoe perform on the court?
I have not yet been able to test the shoe on the crushed bricks, because the outdoor season does not start until next month. However, there was already a lot of feedback available about how this shoe performs on the hard court. There is also a sole type that is specially made for that. The fit is experienced by everyone as very pleasant and comfortable. The 'sock-fit' is very nice. Once the shoe is on, it fits like a glove. The 'low to the ground' feeling gives the shoe a fast and direct feel, with excellent lateral stability. As mentioned before, the fit works particularly well with average to slightly wider feet. The durability of the outsole is average to good. For ultimate durability, Adidas also offers the well-known Barricade. This Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 clearly serves a different group of players in that respect. As far as we are concerned, the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 2 has clearly improved compared to version 1 and the shoe is currently the top in the lightweight segment of tennis shoes, together with the ASICS Gel Solution Speed 3.
