As you may have read, we are paying more and more attention to the swingweight of the different rackets that we review. But what exactly is swingweight and why is it useful to know what 'your ideal swingweight' is when it comes to rackets? This article explains the role of swingweight .
Intro
I have always been fortunate enough to use great equipment when it comes to rackets. Good stringing machines, DT (Dynamic Tension) meters for measuring stringings, racket analysis equipment for weight and balance etc. But since we have had our Head 3-in-1 Swingweight machine for over a year now, the real fun has begun. In addition to weight and balance, you can also measure swingweight with this machine (you guessed it).
But what exactly is swingweight and why would you want to know?
Swingweight is simply the mass you have to swing with each stroke or how heavy the racket feels each time you swing it. Swingweight is measured from the top of your hand (when you hold your racket) to the top of the racket. With the Head 3-in-1 swingweight machine, you place the handle of the racket in the clamp/holder, push the racket to the side and let the racket 'swing'. The machine then indicates the swingweight.
Why is it useful to know the swingweight of rackets?
- To find out which rackets and racket range you are comfortable with/you like to play . Everyone has an 'all-time favorite' tennis racket. Have it measured for weight, balance and swingweight. That will make the search for a worthy successor a lot easier!
- Racket matching . If you have multiple (of the same) rackets, these 'fresh off the shelf' are usually not all the same. If you buy multiple rackets (yes, also of the same type and brand) there can be a difference. And a few grams can already mean a lot for the balance of a racket and therefore also in terms of swingweight. If you can equalize the swing mass of your rackets in addition to the weight and balance, then you know for sure that you pull identical rackets out of your bag and you stand on the court with more confidence.
For a limited time only, we at mijnracket.nl offer free racket matching when purchasing 2 or more of the same rackets!
- Racket tuning/customization . If you play a certain type of racket, but want to get more out of it, you can have your racket tuned/customized. Do you want more power, blade stability, mass, comfort, etc.? There are many possibilities in this area if you have a nice 'platform racket'. This is a racket that still offers some room for adjustment in terms of specs. If you already have a racket that is at your maximum weight, there is little to tune. If you have a racket that is, let's say, 15 to 20 grams below your ideal weight, you can still go in many directions with it. You can 'stretch' it to the ideal specs and swingweight for you, so that you can get the maximum performance out of your racket.
So you are very focused on looking for a new racket/new rackets: measuring = knowing! Let us measure your material and we will come up with a number of good racket options. You can then test them with us to find your ideal racket!
