Intro
It arrived earlier than expected, the new Gravity Pro! The racket went straight to the court with a half-hour stop on the stringing machine. In recent years, Head has had to endure some criticism. This criticism was mostly aimed at the feel of the rackets. Is this Gravity any good? A resounding yes!
We already had an idea in advance where the racket would go. We knew that it would have the “mold” of the older IG Speed 315. The “mold” is the foundation of a racket. In this case that was good news in advance, after all the IG Speed 315 was a great racket. The racket had a great feel and comfort, but it still had some flaws for the modern game. For this Gravity they approached it differently. Head kept everything that was good about the IG Speed 315, and rebuilt the racket so that it has everything the modern game demands.
Baseline
Feel, control and stability are the keywords for this racket from the baseline. The frame which is only 20mm thick ensures a great connection with the ball, this connection is also very comfortable.
The intro referred to the IG Speed 315, this racket excelled in comfort and feel, but the sweet spot of this racket was not that big. It was a fairly unstable racket from the baseline. With this Head Graphene 360+ Gravity Pro that is completely different! The weight is distributed in the racket in such a way that the racket is very stable from the baseline, and also has a bit more power.
Spin? Well fine, because of the thin frame the racket goes through the air quite easily. Personally I would say that this racket is somewhat more suitable for flat strokes than extreme spin strokes.
If you had to describe this racket in one word, it would be “Confidence”. The feeling because the frame is only 20mm thick, the control from the 18x20 string pattern, the stability because of the distribution of the weight and the power because it is still a 100 sq inch head. All these facets together give a unique formula, with few weak points, which results in a racket that does exactly what you expect.
Service
For me this is the only category in which the racket performs quite average. Kick serves come off nicely from this racket. Control and power are both reasonable.
Just
At the net the Gravity Pro is very nice. The racket has a pretty good combination of feel and stability, so that gives a lot of confidence at the net.
Power/Control Head Graphene 360+ Gravity Pro
The racket doesn't have the free power of a Pure Drive, Pure Aero or Head Extreme or something like that. But the racket does have clearly more Power than a Prestige MP, although Head itself gives those two rackets the same score on power. The power/control ratio is very comparable to that of a Prestige Pro, Wilson Blade or Babolat Pure Strike.
Comfort/Feeling
Great! In this category the racket scores very well. There are few rackets on the market that come close to this in my opinion. As mentioned before, the thin 20mm frame provides a lot of feeling, the RA value is therefore quite low. In addition to the feeling, the comfort is also just very good.
Bottom line
All facets of this racket together make for a unique combination. Racket manufacturers always try to make the best possible playing racket for a certain weight, and they certainly succeeded here. As far as I'm concerned, the whole is more than the sum of its parts for the Gravity Pro. The Gravity Pro has a unique combination of feel, control and stability. Ultimately, as far as I'm concerned, there are few rackets in this segment as good as this Head Graphene 360+ Gravity Pro.
