Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip tested

Luxilon has recently expanded its product range considerably. For example, the brand has released 'the best 'dry' overgrip on the market'. Mike has tested this Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip for you!

About Luxilon

Luxilon is best known for its tennis strings with 'Big Banger' technology, such as the Alu Power and the Big Banger Original. More recently, the 4G and Element have been added, all top-of-the-range strings with specific playing characteristics. In recent months, the brand has expanded its product range with, among other things, a Natural Gut string of the highest quality, various dampeners and this Elite Dry overgrip. In terms of moisture absorption, this should be one of the very best overgrips on the market. We put it to the test.

Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip

The Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip is a thin overgrip that is made for maximum moisture absorption. This is also reflected in the texture of this overgrip. The grip is ideal for warm conditions or for players who quickly suffer from damp hands. The overgrip is not very tacky (sticky) in itself, but it does provide better adhesion as your hands become damper. The Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip feels quite soft and comfortable.

Test

I tested the Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip on my trusted Prince Textreme Warrior 107. I always play these with an overgrip. I put this rather thin Luxilon overgrip on top of it, because I was afraid it would feel too thin. This turned out to be an excellent choice. I also tested this overgrip on the new Head Graphene Touch Instinct MP, which we reviewed last month. As mentioned, the Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip is quite thin. This way you add a small top layer to the grip without it becoming much thicker. I am normally not a fan of the so-called 'Dry' overgrips. These grips are mainly made for maximum moisture absorption, but do not have the adhesive power of most overgrips. I generally prefer the stickier overgrips. In the recent past I have played 'Dry' overgrips from Prince and Tourna. The latter Tourna grip is the most commonly used 'Dry' grip on the Tour and can be recognised by its purple colour with red tape.

Moisture absorption and durability

This Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip initially did not feel much different from the Tourna or Prince variants. After about 10 minutes of tennis (indoor, on carpet) the damp hands I was familiar with started to appear. Then the real test actually began. The moisture absorption of the grip is indeed very good. What was clearly noticeable is that it actually gave better grip, the more I suffered from damp hands. The racket also twisted less in the hand with off-center hits, at least that was my idea. You can't really call the grip rough, but the grip actually gets better if you really play a bit longer. I found that the Tourna overgrip started to 'fray' a bit faster, as in that the top layer came loose a bit faster. I played with this Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip for 2 x 1.5 hours, without experiencing this. In terms of durability, the grip also does well.

Conclusion

I think Luxilon will make a lot of players happy with this Elite Dry overgrip. In terms of moisture absorption, this grip is absolutely one of the best on the market. The durability is also fine. I personally still prefer 'tacky' overgrips, but I will also test this overgrip in good weather during the outdoor season. As far as I'm concerned, the Luxilon Elite Dry overgrip is an absolutely fine addition to the Luxilon range!
