One of the better control oriented spinning strings of the moment put through the test: this is the Solinco Hyper-G 17 tested by mijnracket.nl player Mike. The striking, bright green Solinco Hyper-G has been scoring well in various tests for some time now. High time to put this string in my favorite 1.20 mm thickness through the test myself. The Solinco Hyper-G 17 offers a good balance between power and control, more than average ball rotation and is still quite comfortable for co-polyester standards. The string can be compared well with the new string from Diadem, the Elite XT 17.

Stringing the string: The Solinco Hyper-G 17 is easy to string. In contrast to, for example, the RS Lyon 1.20 or the YTEX Square-X 16L, the string is wrapped a bit more 'freely'. What I mean by this is that the string is not 'rolled up' so tightly. This means that you only have to let go of the string slightly to get started with this string. Threading the cross strings is quite easy. All in all, not very exciting.
Review:
I have already had the opportunity to test the Solinco Hyper-G 17 before. Since I was also experimenting with rackets at the time, I found it difficult to give a fair assessment of this string. So here it is, the string is getting a second chance.
The Solinco Hyper-G 17 feels like something between the Tour Bite Soft and the Tour Bite, two other well-known strings from Solinco. I found the Tour Bite Soft too 'jumpy', I clearly missed a bit of control. The soft feel and damping of this string were very pleasant. The 'regular' Tour Bite is a bit more robust and clearly more control-oriented, but also stiffer. The Solinco Hyper-G 17 goes towards the Tour Bite Soft in terms of comfort, but towards the Tour Bite in terms of control. I myself (and my shoulder) found this very pleasant because control and comfort can go together very well in this case. However, there is also enough life and power in the Solinco Hyper-G 17. However, you will have to get most of the speed out of your swing yourself. It is and remains a low-powered string. In that sense, the string does not offer as much dynamics as the Diadem Elite XT 17 , one of my favorite strings. The Elite XT 17 also offers clearly more spin, due to the six-pointed (star-shaped) construction. However, the Hyper-G does offer more spin than average, which was nice to provide my somewhat flatter groundstrokes with a bit more margin. In terms of spin potential, the Tour Bite wins over the Hyper-G. The Tour Bite grips the balls a bit easier/has more ball pocketing. The tension retention of the Solinco Hyper-G is quite neat. The string is quite stable on this front. I also found the durability for a 1.20 string to be sufficient to good. In fact, the Solinco Hyper-G 17 scores a very good mark on all fronts. This makes it one of the better all-round polys.
