Yonex is known for its technical innovations and the new Yonex EZONE DR 100 is bursting with them! The new Nanometric material provides more energy return to the ball and more blade stability. New tubings of different sizes and curves provide more freedom of movement of the strings and thus for a larger sweet spot in combination with the typical Yonex Isometric angled blade shape. The Quake Shut Gel in the grip in turn provides more vibration dampening. The characteristic Aero Shape shaft construction ensures less air resistance for faster swings. The Yonex EZONE DR 100 is the successor to the Yonex EZONE Ai 100. If you are a fan of the latter, it is an easy switch to the DR 100. The EZONE DR 100 is a versatile racket, powerful from the baseline, plenty of spin potential, stable and solid at the net. This racket has a good balance between power and spin on the one hand (which is a requirement for players these days) and control and ball feel on the other. This frame also scores well in terms of vibration damping, although the frame feels slightly more robust compared to the EZONE Ai 100.
If you compare the Yonex EZONE DR 100 with the EZONE DR 98 (310) we previously reviewed, the DR 100 offers a bit more power due to the larger blade size, the higher 32.0 balance point and the slightly higher RA value (stiffness) of 69 compared to 62. The DR 100 is also 10 grams lighter and therefore has a slightly wider range of applications.
Players who like to use the speed that the opponent puts into the ball and are not so much power hitters themselves, will find the speed, power and stability of the Yonex EZONE DR 100 top. This blade works best with a somewhat softer polyester stringing or a somewhat less tight stringing in general because the blade feels a bit more robust compared to its predecessor. This 'opens up' the sweet spot a bit more for some extra comfort.
