In recent weeks I have tested its spin brother, the Yonex Poly Tour Spin G, in the same thickness. The Bordeaux red Yonex Poly Tour Spin G looks premium and initially looks a lot like its brother, with the Spin G having a spicier bite as you would expect from a spinning string. It takes some getting used to with the first ball contact, but the direct ball feeling immediately feels good. In addition to providing extra spin, as I expect from a poly, the string does little other than transfer the force of the blow directly to the ball. That gives an extremely stable feeling.
It was also noticeable with this string that the serving was done with precision and control. No bouncy feeling, but direct ball contact, which gives you the feeling that you can steer the ball very precisely. I was able to hit the slice serve in particular very sharply and with sufficient tempo. With this string I didn't lose much speed. In my opinion, especially the flattened services achieved excellent speed. The strokes from the baseline are comfortable and don't feel bad on my arm. The length of my strokes is also perfectly fine. However, just like with the Yonex Poly Tour Pro, you have to provide power yourself: the string doesn't really help you with that. Also for the Yonex Poly Tour Spin G, tensioning is one kilo lower, which provides extra power. The advantage of this string is that you don't hit for too long and you can therefore spread it out without holding back. The extra spin you can get from this string gives you even more control over the length of your strokes. It was also noticeable that a deep spin ball shot away considerably. Higher than I'm used to from other strings.
In my opinion, this string works well in a more flexible frame with a lot of weight. Hitting volleys with this string is nice and direct, but still with sufficient feeling. A clear difference compared to Poly Tour Pro where balls threaten to jump off. The Yonex Poly Tour Spin G, on the other hand, has more feeling with drop volleys or subtly placed balls. Furthermore, slices are easy to hit due to the firm bite of the string without the ball floating. I think this string is somewhere between the real 6 or 9 edged spinning strings and a regular poly string. So if you are looking for a spinning string that has the playing characteristics of a regular poly but provides just a little extra spin, then the Yonex Poly Tour Spin G 1.25 is highly recommended.
