The Pure Drive 98 follows the Pure Drive VS and is by far the Pure Drive racket with the most control. The racket offers a strong mix of the well-known Pure Drive power accompanied by extra precision. This is due to the more compact string bed in combination with the smaller 98 sq/inch blade. The frame itself is also slimmer than the regular Pure Drive. Compared to the regular Pure Drive of 300 grams, the balance point is 0.5 cm higher, resulting in a solid swingweight of around 330.

If you get this racket round and behind the ball on time, the plough-through is great and you can actually let the racket do the work itself. Balls come through full and firm, but with better control than the regular Pure Drive. The RA/stiffness of 74 is spicy, but fortunately the frame does not feel that stiff, partly thanks to the good damping SWX Pure Feel technology.

All in all, the Pure Drive 98 is a fine tool for the player who is looking for that extra bit of free power, without immediately flying off the handle. This racket must compete with, among others, the Yonex EZONE 98 of 305 grams.
