Technology and playing characteristics Wilson Blade 98 18x20 V9:

For this update of the Blade 98 18×20, Wilson has made a number of small adjustments. For example, the RA (stiffness) has remained the same for this version of the Blade, but the stability has clearly improved. The quality control should also have been tightened. The rackets should be closer together in terms of specs (weight, balance and swingweight). Always nice if you need multiple rackets as a competition player of course. Stablefeel technology should provide more stability and the renewed bumpers (recognizable by the 2 green grommets at 10 and 2 o'clock) are super easy to change/remove. This is very useful for tuning/matching rackets, but also for replacing the bumper itself in due course.

Groundstrokes:

From the baseline, the new Blade 98 18x20 V9 is an extremely reliable weapon. The mix of power and control is, as we know it, excellent with this model. However, this V9 version has a more solid playing feel and a slightly higher swingweight compared to the V8 version. This ensures that there is more mass behind the ball; more plough-through as it is so nicely called. For example, slice backhands are wonderful to cut, if you bring the racket through the ball with good technique. Under pressure, this racket is super stable and therefore cannot be pushed away easily. Some people had this with the V8 version. Because the swingweight is slightly increased, the racket has a fraction more (free) power. However, you must have good technique/full swing to be able to optimally 'operate' this racket.

This racket has (even) more control than the 16x19 version and a wear-resistant 18x20 string bed, ideal for frequent string breakers. The 16x19 version plays a bit more lively and has a bit more spin potential.

All in all a great update to an already great racket. Not for nothing is the Blade the most chosen racket on tour!
