The nostalgic Belgian racket brand Snauwaert made its comeback earlier this year. Mijnracket.nl recently visited Snauwaert . A wonderful piece of tennis nostalgia and hopefully -future!
Earlier this year we heard the news that Snauwaert would be making a comeback on the tennis racket market. You can read all about it in our previous blog. This made us very curious and after some contact back and forth a visit to the Snauwaert showroom near Leuven in Belgium followed. The older readers among us undoubtedly still know Snauwaert. The tennis brand, founded in 1928, experienced its heyday in the 70s and 80s as a renowned racket brand for players such as Mikael Pernfors, Vitas Gerulaitis and Miroslav Mecir. In those days the brand was a major player on the tennis market. Halfway through the 80s the brand unfortunately lost its place on this market. So now the comeback!
In the showroom itself where rolls of 4 km (!) are used to string all the rackets.
The Snauwaert Ergonom here in XXL version: a groundbreaking racket for that time! The Belgian brand wants to regain its place on the tennis racket market 'as an innovative e-commerce company', by reaching tennis players via a select number of online (sales) channels and via tennis clubs. In this way, Snauwaert wants to create a real tennis community in order to grow the brand. The brand will only be found in a very limited number of tennis specialty stores. All rackets are delivered in a luxury gift box, including towel, balls and logo stencil.
Of course we are very curious about the rackets themselves. In the coming weeks, team mijnracket.nl will put two models through the test. These are the Grinta 100 Heavy : 100 sq/inch, 305 grams, 31.5 balance and 16/18 string pattern and the Vitas 100 Heavy : 100 sq/inch, 300 grams, 31.5 balance and 16/19 string pattern. You will soon find an extensive test report of both rackets here on mijnracket.nl!
