The Ultra racket line from Wilson is the successor to the Juice series. This Ultra 100 is therefore actually the successor to the Juice 100. Looking at the specs of both rackets, there are a few small differences. The stringing pattern has become fractionally more compact in the Ultra 100: 16/19 compared to 16/18. The Wilson Ultra 100 is also 4 grams lighter and has a lower RA value of 69 compared to 73 in the Juice 100. The nice thing about these small changes is that they do have an effect on the feel of the racket. The racket offers a better mix of power and control, which we will discuss below.
Just like in the Burn series, Wilson uses High Performance Carbon Fiber in the 'neck' of the racket in this new Ultra series. This material provides an increase in stiffness and therefore power. The added Cushion Foam in the handle provides extra vibration dampening, more than the Amplifeel 360 in the Juice 100. The Belarusian powerhouse Victoria Azarenka will play with this frame from the Australian Open.
Just like the Juice 100, the Wilson Ultra 100 is also a racket with a lot of power. However, due to the new material mix in combination with the Cushion Foam technology, the frame feels less stiff. The extremely high stiffness gave the Juice 100 unprecedented power, while the control and feel lagged behind a little. By reducing this a little and increasing the comfort of the frame, the Ultra 100 is more balanced. Players who have played both rackets experience more controlled power. With the 100 sq/inch head size and the fairly open 16/19 stringing pattern, the racket offers a generous sweet spot and a lot of spin potential to give your shots more margin.
The undersigned has already taken the Wilson Ultra 100 in hand and the frame indeed feels more solid compared to its predecessor.
