Baseline:
This is what the Pure Aero is made for! The racket offers a nice dot of power and easy ball rotation. The previous Pure Aero offered even more power, but played less consistently. This new version also feels much more stable than its predecessor without a doubt. As mentioned, the power and spin come off easily, but much more controlled than with the latest and previous versions. In addition, the predecessor of this Pure Aero 2019 was sometimes experienced as 'tinny': little feeling, a lot of power, but a spicy impact on off-center hits. This was one of the reasons why I was never a fan of the Pure Aero or Aeropro Drive: my sensitive shoulder quickly had to pay the price with these fairly stiff frames. With the new Pure Aero 2019 this is much less. A big compliment to Babolat! I would seriously (could) consider playing with this version; what a difference!
Service:
Little to complain about: the Pure Aero serves easily. Kick and slice serves are easy to play. Maybe a little less service power than the previous version. More consistency.
Just:
I was pleasantly surprised how this new Pure Aero performed at the net. I had great control over my volleys: hard balls were neatly parried, the touch for emotional volleys was there too! But also the maneuverability at the net was better than expected.
Power/control:
This update of the Babolat Pure Aero brings a bit more balance in terms of power and control. Of course, it remains power over control with this racket, but the racket plays more predictably and controlled than previous versions. Of course, it remains a frame for the player who wants to play dominantly with power and spin. Someone who is looking for more control will experience the Pure Strike 16x19 as a better choice.
Comfort/arm friendliness:
Here the racket goes from a 6- in the previous version to an 8 in this new version as far as I'm concerned! I think for 2 reasons: of course the damping effect of Cortex Pure Feel at 3 and 9 o'clock in the blade, but also the clearly improved stability of the racket. The racket twists less and this is not only noticeable in terms of control, but also in terms of vibrations to the arm.Bottom line:
Babolat has listened carefully to the needs of the modern player. This Babolat Pure Aero 2019 keeps the characteristic power and spin, but plays much more consistently and is friendlier to the arm and shoulder! In addition, I clearly had more feeling and touch with this version. All in all a rock-solid update of the Babolat Pure Aero. In my opinion a contender for racket of the year!
