The name Babolat Pure Aero VS suggests that this is an addition to the popular Pure Aero series , but this is not entirely the case. In an earlier post we reported on two limited edition colorways of the regular Pure Aero: a Roland Garros version and a 'Stars 'n Stripes' version. Although this Babolat Pure Aero VS has the same color scheme as the latter, it is indeed a different racket. The Babolat Pure Aero VS is a special hybrid of two Babolat racket families, namely the Pure Aero series and the Pure Control series. The racket has an Aero shaft, but a classic, flat box-beam frame construction in the head. The American Jack Sock is the player who promotes this Babolat Pure Aero USA in a special 'Let's rally America' campaign, a nod to the upcoming presidential elections in America. The 'Stars 'n Stripes' color scheme was also chosen with a view to the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. 
Compared to the Pure Aero, this Babolat Pure Aero VS is a somewhat more difficult racket to play. The racket has less free power and also clearly has a smaller ideal hitting zone for the ball and is therefore less forgiving. The smaller 98 sq/inch blade size and the more compact 16/20 stringing pattern contribute to this. The box-beam frame construction of the head does give the racket more feeling than the Pure Aero, but you will have to generate the speed yourself with this racket. Compared to the earlier Aero Storm, in fact the predecessor of this racket, this Babolat Pure Aero VS is slightly more agile and the racket has a slightly faster feel. The relatively small sweet spot makes the Babolat Pure Aero VS somewhat unstable on off-center hits. 
All in all, the Babolat Pure Aero VS is a unique racket in terms of construction and specs, but it is not as widely applicable as the regular Pure Aero racket family . At Babolat there will be more focus on the Pure Aero series and the new Pure Strike racket line, of which the ProjectOne7 rackets recently tested by us are the precursor.
