It is now clear that tennis shoes are no longer the stiff clogs of the past. But what about minimalist tennis shoes, such as the New Balance Minimus 60 ? Do they really work well on the tennis court? Today we discuss this ultra-light, fast tennis shoe, a must-have for players looking for a minimalist shoe.
Minimalist shoes, also called 'natural', are mainly known from the running sport. They are known for their low profile (little to no difference in heel and forefoot height), little support at the heel, a lot of flexibility, and direct contact with the ground. The idea is that these shoes allow your foot to move more freely, which activates more muscle groups and makes your lower body stronger. For some, this type of shoe works perfectly, for others it can lead to injuries, such as problems with the Achilles tendons or calves.
Now this type of shoe has slowly made its entrance into tennis. ASICS took the first step with models like the Gel-Solution Lyte and Gel Solution Speed. But now New Balance comes with the Minimus 60 .
Specifications New Balance Minimus 60
- Brand: New Balance
- Model: Minimus 60
- Drop (height difference from heel to forefoot): 4 mm
- Weight: 278 grams
- Sole profile: Gravel (clay)
The New Balance Minimus 60 is the first tennis shoe from this brand with a Minimus design. The height difference between the heel and the forefoot, the so-called drop, is only 4 mm. This ensures a low-to-the-ground effect, which is ideal for tennis, a sport in which you play a lot on the forefeet. The shoe has a deep herringbone profile on the sole, which ensures excellent grip on clay courts.
The upper of the shoe consists of a mix of synthetic materials and mesh, while the REVlite midsole provides fine cushioning in the lightest possible design.
