Technology:
Head will use the Auxetic technology for all new racket families. This is already in the new Prestige, Boom and in the Speed series that will be released soon. The new Auxetic material that Head uses around the heart piece (more specifically in the yoke) of the new rackets, gives the feeling of a slightly longer ball contact. This ensures a lot of feeling with the ball, which gives you very nice direct control over the ball. In addition, Head also uses the well-known Graphene technology for more stability and more energy transfer from the racket to the ball.
Baseline:
From the baseline you immediately feel that this racket has the necessary punch! The balls come off the racket easily, but always with controlled power. You can actually pull through nicely, without quickly losing control and control over the ball. Speaking of control: it seems as if you have the ball in your face a fraction of a bit longer with this racket, before it is released. This gives a very pleasant (controlled) feeling about placing the balls. Furthermore, it is noticeable that the racket is also nice and crisp without feeling too stiff. With this racket you can really dish out a lot from the baseline! The spin and slice are not exceptional, but just solid and controlled. This racket has a (for me) very nice swingweight of 325. With slices you can also notice that the balls are very pleasant to cut with this racket. Other advantages are that this racket has quite a lot of impact power, so to speak, and that the racket is not easy to push away. One of my favorite strokes with the Boom Pro is the return. The racket is nice and fast and very stable. Once you get the racket behind the ball, there's no stopping the opponent ;) In short: from the baseline this is a rock-solid weapon with a fairly generous sweet spot that feels bigger than a standard 98 sq/inch.
Service:
The Boom Pro also has a fair amount of service power. I'm not really a service cannon myself, so anything extra I get from the racket is a bonus. The services always came through at a good speed and my slice service from the right to the outside (I'm right-handed) was a very vicious one. The string bed is quite compact in the sweet spot. This may have made it a bit more difficult for me to get the kick serves off, but all in all it's easy to serve with this racket.
Just:
Steady! The Boom Pro certainly holds its own at the net. The racket is simply very solid and that surprised me somewhat after my previous test of the Boom MP. The MP is lightning fast, but feels much less 'full' and stable than this Pro version. That difference is really considerable. A reliable and solid option at the net that can be quickly brought into position due to the nice low balance. Stop volleys with a bit more ingenuity and touch are also easy to play.
Power/control Head Boom Pro:
The Head Boom Pro is nicely balanced in terms of power and control and that is one of the big plus points of this racket. On the one hand, the racket has the necessary punch to tackle balls well and/or to finish points. On the other hand, the control is perfectly guaranteed, because the racket is so incredibly stable and offers very good control over the ball due to the fractionally longer ball contact.Comfort/arm friendliness :
The comfort is just fine, partly because the racket plays so stable and therefore doesn't 'wobble' much. For this test I strung the Boom Pro with the new string from Diadem, the Pro X in 17/1.20 mm thickness. This is quite a spicy string with a fairly direct playing feel. But this racket can handle that just fine, without it being at the expense of comfort. With for example a hybrid setup with multi or gut the comfort level will increase even more.
