Babolat Pure Drive 2015 vs Babolat Pure Drive 2012

Pure Drive 2015 Who doesn't know it? The Babolat Pure Drive is now more or less what the Copa Mundial is among football boots: a true classic. The very last version of this racket was released around the Australian Open 2015. We at mijnracket.nl compare the new version with its predecessor.

What's new?

A successful instrument is never subject to major changes, so the Babolat Pure Drive 2015 (standard version) also features no crazy features: Head size: 100 sq/inch, weight (unstrung) 300 grams, balance 32.0 cm and stringing pattern 16/19 have all remained the same.

But what's new besides the paint job? Why should we have this racket?

  • Rearrangement of the string bed: the stringing pattern of 16 main strings and 19 cross strings has remained the same, but the string density of the new Babolat Pure Drive 2015 has changed compared to the Babolat Pure Drive 2012. Based on data collected from the PLAY version of the Pure Drive, it turned out that the ideal contact zone (sweet spot) for Pure Drive players is slightly higher than in the middle of the headstock. In this 'new sweet spot' the string density is slightly higher
  • FSI technology: Frame String Interaction, as FSI is called in full, ensures more interaction between racket and string by placing special inserts on the outside of the racket at 3 and 9 o'clock, resulting in a longer ball-string contact moment for more spin and a softer feel. This technology is an addition to the well-known Woofer technology in which the strings do not lie flat in the frame, but over curves, which has already fractionally extended the contact moment with the ball.

So

The addition of the FSI technology gives the Babolat Pure Drive 2015 a longer ball-string contact moment, which results in more grip on the ball and therefore more spin. The racket remains steady at the net and when serving you can expect a little more grip on the ball compared to the Pure Drive 2012. The FSI technology also contributes to an extra bit of vibration dampening, in addition to the Active Cortex built-in damper (which runs from the shaft to the bottom of the grip).
