Wilson Pro Staff 97 2016 Review: The New Powerhouse in the Pro Staff Series
The Wilson Pro Staff 97 2016 is part of the new Pro Staff collection that will be launched around the US Open. This racket is the lighter version of the famous Wilson Pro Staff RF 97 Autograph 2016 , the racket of Roger Federer. However, the Pro Staff 97 comes in its own unique color scheme, to visually distinguish between the different rackets within the Pro Staff family.
Play Feel and Comfort
Like its predecessor, the Wilson Pro Staff 97 2016 retains the same specs and frame construction. The racket offers a comfortable, soft and cushioning playing experience thanks to the classic box-beam frame construction. This contributes to the excellent feel and control over the ball that Pro Staff rackets are known for.
One of the notable changes in the latest Pro Staff series is the increase in head size to 97 sq/inch , which is also the case with this racket. This gives the Wilson Pro Staff 97 2016 a larger sweet spot, making the racket slightly more forgiving and accessible to a wider audience. Despite the classic Pro Staff feel, this racket offers relatively much power due to the stiffer frame construction (RA 66).
The 16/19 string pattern provides a lot of spin potential, ideal for players who like to play with topspin. Due to the low balance point of 31.0 cm the racket is lightning fast at the net, which makes it a perfect choice for attacking players who like to volley and react quickly.
The Wilson Pro Staff 97 2016 offers a nice balance between power, control and spin, with an improved sweet spot compared to previous versions of the Pro Staff. Thanks to the slightly larger head size and stiffer frame construction, this racket is not only suitable for pure control freaks, but also offers sufficient power for players who are looking for more aggressiveness in their game. This racket falls within the "Attacker" category of Wilson, ideal for attacking players.
