Last week the unofficial kick-off of the new tennis season took place in Rotterdam. Every year the ABN AMRO WTT is the warm-up for the new season. The undersigned was there for 2 days and enjoyed top tennis, the great stringing team and the latest tennis products. Here is an impression of the ABN AMRO WTT 2016 !
Despite the absence of top players such as Roger Federer and Richard Gasquet, it was still a lot of fun in Ahoy. The mix of top tennis and great entertainment is worth its weight in gold in Rotterdam. I was able to enjoy all of this on Thursday and Sunday!
On Thursday, the match of teenage talent Zverev against the experienced Frenchman Simon stood out! Zverev ultimately came out on top in a fantastic match with beautiful rallies. It was right that Krajicek had reserved a wildcard for the German for the second year in a row. Martin Klizan also impressed on Thursday with his sledgehammer blows.
Between the games there was plenty of entertainment on the side courts and for me as a blogger about the latest rackets and strings at the stands of Prince, Wilson, Head, Yonex, Babolat, Dunlop and Tecnifibre, among others.
After surviving match points in both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, the Slovakian Martin Klizan surprised the Frenchman Gaël Monfils in the final and the ABN AMRO WTT 2016 received a winner that was as surprising as it was beautiful! In the meantime, I also enjoyed the Tecnifibre stringing team, which strung no fewer than 403 rackets this week, many of which were taken care of by our Dutch stringing great Timo van Driel!
All in all, it was a great time in Ahoy and I personally can't wait for the start of the new outdoor season!
