Last week the unofficial kick-off of the new tennis season took place in Rotterdam. The ABN AMRO WTT is the warm-up for the new season every year. The undersigned was there for 2 days and enjoyed top tennis, the great stringing team and the latest tennis products. Here is an impression of the ABN AMRO WTT 2016 !
Despite the absence of top players like Roger Federer and Richard Gasquet, it was still a full-on blast of enjoyment in Ahoy. The mix of top tennis and great entertainment is worth its weight in gold in Rotterdam. I myself was able to enjoy all of this on Thursday and Sunday!
On Thursday, the match between teenage talent Zverev and the experienced Frenchman Simon stood out! Zverev eventually came out on top in a brilliant match with beautiful rallies. So it was right that Krajicek reserved a wildcard for the German for the second year in a row. Martin Klizan also impressed on Thursday with his hammer blows.
In between the games there was plenty of entertainment on the side courts and for me as a blogger about the latest rackets and strings at the stands of Prince, Wilson, Head, Yonex, Babolat, Dunlop and Tecnifibre.
After surviving match points in both the quarter finals and the semi finals, Slovakian Martin Klizan surprised Frenchman Gaël Monfils in the final and ABN AMRO WTT 2016 got a surprising and beautiful winner! In the meantime, I also enjoyed the Tecnifibre stringing team that strung no less than 403 rackets this week, of which our Dutch stringing great Timo van Driel was again responsible for many!
All in all, it was a pleasure to be back in Ahoy and I personally can't wait for the start of the new outdoor season!
