Intro:
The Percept series is the successor to the VCORE Pro series from Yonex. A new model in the line-up is the Percept 100D , a 100 sq/inch racket with a compact 18x19 string pattern. This type of string pattern is not often seen, but it offers a nice balance between control and power. Like the other rackets in the Percept series, this racket contains many technical gadgets. For example, there is the Servo Filter , which selectively dampens vibrations and provides more ball feel and control, and the 2G-Namd Flex Force , which provides better spin and control. The blade of the Percept rackets is slightly stiffened for more stability and power.
Baseline:
From the baseline, the Yonex Percept 100D is very predictable and stable. Despite a lower swingweight than expected, the racket feels solid and does not let itself be pushed away easily. Especially with slice backhands, the ball feel is noticeable, with a lot of precision and control. Although control is central to the Percept 100D, you can also easily hit a powerful ball if you approach the strokes well. The spin is better than expected, without the 18x19 stringing pattern causing the ball trajectory to be too high. All in all, the racket is very impressive from the baseline.
Service:
While the serve isn’t Mike’s biggest weapon, the balls came off the racquet with good speed. The 23mm beam of the Percept 100D adds extra power compared to the slimmer 21mm versions. The Servo Filter gives the racquet great feel through impact, and the stiffer head construction contributes to powerful serves. Kick and slice serves were easy to produce despite the tighter string pattern, and overall there was a good balance between speed and control on the serve.
Just:
With a weight of 305 grams and a balance of 31.5 cm, the Percept 100D feels nice and fast at the net. The racket is solid on hard incoming balls and offers a good feel for precise volleys, such as stop volleys . This makes the Percept 100D a reliable partner at the net.
Power/control Yonex Percept 100D:
The racket offers a nice balance between control and power . Although the emphasis is on control, there is enough punch in the racket when you really go for your shots. This ensures powerful but controlled play. The feeling in the racket is excellent, especially with slice backhands and drop shots. The mix of control and power makes the Percept 100D a versatile racket that inspires confidence.
Comfort/arm friendliness:
The Percept 100D also scores high in terms of comfort . Despite the RA value of 66, the racket feels less stiff, thanks to the stability and vibration damping. The racket hardly twists at ball impact, so that the vibrations are not or hardly transmitted to the arm. This makes the racket comfortable without the feeling feeling dampened.
Yonex Percept 100D bottom line:
The Yonex Percept 100D is currently Mike's favorite Yonex racquet. As he gets older, he tends more and more towards a 100 sq/inch racquet without sacrificing control. The Wilson Blade 100 V8 is another favorite of his, now together with the Percept 100D. The combination of power and control in this racquet is excellent, and the ball feel and comfort are clearly above average. The addition of the 100D to the Percept series is a smart move by Yonex. This racquet is perfect for players who want control in a more forgiving frame.
