Technology and playing characteristics Wilson Blade 100 V9:
For this update of the Blade racket family, Wilson has made a number of adjustments. In particular, the stability has been greatly improved. The quality control should also be tightened. The rackets should be closer together in terms of specs (weight, balance and swingweight). Always nice if you need multiple rackets as a competition player of course. Stablefeel technology should therefore provide more stability and the renewed bumpers (recognizable by the 2 green grommets at 10 and 2 o'clock) are super easy to change/remove. This is very useful for tuning/matching rackets, but also for replacing the bumper itself in due course.
From the baseline, you get a little more free power with this Blade 100 V9 compared to the 98 sq/inch variants. The sweet spot also feels more generous and is more forgiving. So if you don't always hit all the balls equally cleanly (yet), you can still get away with it with this Blade. With the heavier 98 sq/inch variants, a lot less. Because the frame is a little thicker and the blade a little bigger than its heavier brothers, you get a little more free power. However, with the well-known direct steering that you would expect from a Blade. The clearly improved stability provides the additional bit of control and confidence to hit hard without immediately flying off the bend. In that respect, the Wilson Blade 100 V9 is one of the few truly control-oriented 100 sq/inch rackets on the market. A wonderful frame for the ambitious player for whom the 98 sq/inch variants are just a little too much of a good thing.
For a little more control while maintaining spin and punch, check out the Blade 98 16x19 V9.
The Wilson Blade 100 V9 offers everything the Blade does best – power, control and stability – but in a more forgiving racquet at 300 grams.
